88% of 20,396 hospitals in the Americas face exposure to natural hazards like floods and hurricanes, with 43% in high-risk zones. It's crucial for these hospitals to boost their preparedness and mitigation efforts against climate change impacts.

PAHO has evaluated the exposure to natural hazards of more than twenty thousand hospitals (n=20,396) in the Americas region, of which 88% were classified in some decile of exposure to at least one hazard, of which flooding is the most important, followed by hurricanes, landslides, seismic and volcanic activity. Furthermore, 43% of these hospitals are located in areas of high exposure, which makes it necessary for them to identify and have mitigation actions and a high level of preparedness to face the risks derived from climate change.
